THE WATERBOYS RETURN with new album Modern Blues next Monday (January 19) but you can hear the album in full exclusively in the UK via MOJO right now.
Mike Scott’s band were joined by a host of American musicians for Modern Blues, which was recorded in Nashville last year.
Alongside The Waterboys’ violinist Steve Wickham, Memphis keyboard player “Brother” Paul Brown and Muscle Shoals studio bassist David Hood took part in the album sessions.
“I’ve got the man who played on Aretha Franklin’s hits on bass!” explains Scott. “He and Paul had a huge impact on the sound.”
Modern Blues is reviewed in the latest edition of MOJO, with James McNair calling it “the best Waterboys record since 1988’s Fisherman’s Blues.”
