Producer Nigel Godrich is set to launch a new music show on the Sky Arts channel this weekend (December 1).
From The Basement will feature exclusive, intimate live performances from some of the finest bands on the planet. The show has no host and no studio audience. The action - filmed in HD - will centre on the artists.
The first episode will be broadcast on Saturday, December 1 at 9pm and is set to include performances from The White Stripes, The Shins and Neil Hannon. "I don’t think a music programme has recorded a performance on analog reel to reel in thirty years," explained Jack White. "It was beautifully filmed, and the sound quality makes a performance on a regular TV talk show sound like a wax cylinder recording. No host. Thank God.”
The full schedule looks like this:
1st December 2007 – The White Stripes, The Shins and Neil Hannon
8th December 2007 – Thom Yorke, Albert Hammond Jr and Envelopes
15th December 2007 – Beck, Jarvis Cocker and Jamie Lidell
22nd December 2007 – Sonic Youth, Jose Gonzalez and Laura Marling
29th December 2007 – PJ Harvey, Super Furry Animals and Free Blood
5th January 2008 – Damien Rice, Autolux, E (from Eels) and Architecture In Helsinki
