Sex Pistols Headline Isle Of Wight

Once a totemic symbol of hippie-dom due to its patchouli-stained past, next year the Isle Of Wight Festival will controversially boast the Sex Pistols as Saturday night headliners. The punk icons will play appear on June 14, joining The Police who headline Friday June 13.

Confirmation of the Pistols’ appearance comes in the wake of speculation that they would headline Glastonbury 2008 following the attendance of Glasto-guru Michael Eavis at the band’s recent thirtieth anniversary shows at London’s Brixton Academy.

The band’s five-stand in London sold out instantly and The Pistols’ ongoing plans appear to have put paid to any immediate emergence of singer John Lydon’s long-awaited solo venture which has been in the works since 2003. Lydon has told MOJO that the album – which was recorded at his home with producer Nick Launay - is “all there” but that labels “won’t touch me with a bargepole.”

In an interview in the new issue of MOJO magazine (on sale December 5), Lydon also admits that he won’t rule out a new Pistols album, following the re-recording of Pretty Vacant and Anarchy In The UK for use on the Guitar Hero III game’s soundtrack.

The Pistols are also expected to release a live DVD filmed at the Brixton shows next year. This will coincide with their Isle Of Wight appearance.

The Isle Of Wight meanwhile are set to confirm their Sunday night headliner on Monday December 3. The festival runs from June 13-15 with tickets on sale from 9.00am on December 10 from www.ticketzone.co.uk
