The late Ian Dury’s 1977 album, New Boots And Panties, re-emerges on Demon Edsel this month, featuring extra tracks and a bonus DVD, the latter a rollicking Sight And Sound In Concert performance from December 10, 1977. It’s a opportunity to gawp at the dazzling genius of Dury, a Rabelaisian art-prankster backed by the exquisitely alien pub-funk of the Blockheads.
MOJO has 10 copies to give away, with each winner also bagging a limited edition orange vinyl 7-inch single copy of Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll. On the flip is Close To Home, a recording from January 1977 which was only ever issued on an NME cassette in 1981.
An EP exclusive to iTunes will also be available containing Two Steep Hills (Only ever issued in 1977 on the b-side of an extremely limited NME competition winners single).
To come within touching distance of the prize, mail Editor@mojo4music.com before December 7, with the answer to the following question…
He had a love affair with Nina in the back of his Cortina, a seasoned-up hyena could not have been obscener, but who was he?
a) Clever Trevor
b) Billericay Dickie
c) Mile End Michael
The Blockheads, with guest Phill Jupitus are touring the UK throughout November and December on their 30th Anniversary Tour, and will play New Boots And Panties!! in its entirety.
