AMY WINEHOUSE HAS BEEN RELEASED on bail after being questioned by North London police. The arrest was in connection to the charge of perverting the course of justice stacked against her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil. But no charges have yet been brought against her.
Fielder-Civil is due in court after Christrmas, where he will answer to the allegation that he caused grevious bodily harm to Hoxton pub landlord James King, then attempted to “buy off” the victim with an offer of £200,000 – the kind of money that’s maybe easier to get hold of if your wife’s a chart-topping singer.
Four other men face charges relating to the attack – which took place at Macbeths public house in June last year – and the subsequent alleged attempt to nobble the trial.
It’s been an up-and-down month for Winehouse since she graced MOJO’s cover. In October she was arrested in Norway for cannabis possession. She toiled through November, dropping gigs as the tabloids turned up the heat on herself and Fielder-Civil, but pulled off a storming show at the Brixton Academy on the 23rd that made onlookers wonder if she could still turn it around.
Then came the cancellation of a US tour and now this arrest. It’s not a story that’s about to lie down. Although perhaps that’s exactly what its protagonist needs to do.
