“We’ve already written the third album!” proclaimed Fyfe Dangerfield when MOJO first met the over-excitable Guillemots on the eve of the band’s first single release. Since then, the London-based troupe have given full reign to their ambitions, touring endlessly and releasing their highly acclaimed debut album, Through The Window Pane, all while garnering a reputation as one of Britain’s most exciting and eccentric bands. And that reputation is likely to grow further with the release of their second album.
As yet untitled and unmastered, the album was unveiled last night at an exclusive 12-person playback at the band’s own studio in East London. MOJO was in attendance and we can reveal that the album marks a significant leap forward in terms of its musical breadth and commercial appeal.
Always a band armed with a keen sense of adventure, this time around Guillemots have drawn on the kind of bold, lush musical experimentation not heard since the ‘80s, delivering an album which, on first listen, sits somewhere between the stadium and the dancefloor.
A marked and at times breathless progression, the new album sees the band drawing on influences ranging from Bollywood samples through to Prince-styled pop-funk and Talk Talk’s via Dangerfield’s Elton-esque knack for a melody.
Stand-out tracks include the stomping, high-energy Get Over It (possibly a choice for the first single from the album) and, contrastingly, the piano-led balladry of Words – the latter harking back to the feel of the band’s debut in parts.
The full tracklisting reads as follows: Kriss Kross, Big Dog, Falling Out Of Reach, Get Over It, Clarion, Last Kiss, Cockateels, Words, Standing On The Last Star, Don’t Look Down and Take Me Home.
The album is due out in March on Fantastic Plastic/Polydor and is expected to be followed by the usual cavalcade of touring. Then, as Fyfe told us two years ago, Guillemots have already written their third album…

RE: joeboy
It's the second album and they are not well known, besides the UK.
They deserve much more praise and recognition because they are clearly the boldest, talented and brilliant band to appear in the music scene since Arcade Fire.
I hope this album confirms this.
(pardon my english, i´m from Portugal)

também sou de Portugal :)
(im also from Portugal)
I agree. They are absolutely fine and i cant even recognize a correct term to describe their music. Its a mixture of everything, they are all very talented and im looking forward to this album, although i cant really see a album consisting in the same general sound (aka they are becoming very mainstream and producing catchy songs - enjoy windowpane)
Standing On The Last Star is very good and its my though as the second or third single.
