As the year in which Stax celebrated it’s fiftieth anniversary and announced plans for its continued revival, MOJO Radio presents a weekend dedicated to the iconic Memphis label.
MOJO Radio’s Stax Weekend begins tonight, Friday December 21, at 9.00pm with a special two hour programme hosted by MOJO magazine’s Editor-In-Chief Phil Alexander packed with the label’s hits, misses and lost classics.
The show is repeated on Sunday at 9.00pm and is followed by Otis Redding live in 1966 in what is a landmark performance at the Whiskey A-Go-Go in Los Angeles. The weekend also features a Stax classic played every hour, 9-5, throughout Saturday and Sunday.
MOJO Radio is available via Sky Digital (channel 0182), Freeview (channel 721) and on the radio player on this site.
In conjunction with this finger-popping, radio-phonic extravaganza, we’re delighted to present this video playlist:
Otis Redding - Satisfaction
Isaac Hayes In The Studio
The Staple Singers - Respect Yourself
Rufus Thomas - Walking The Dog
Booker T & The MGs - Time Is Tight
