MOJO 172 / March 2008

10:47 AM GMT 28/01/2008

Free CD! BELOVED: a treasury of classic British indie rock. 15 tracks including Orange Juice, The La’s, The Teardrop Explodes, The House Of Love, Felt, The Loft, Half Man Half Biscuit and more.

THE SMITHS & INDIE ROCK: A 24-page spectacular of inspirational, oppositional pop thrills. Featuring a revealing delve inside the tortured mind of Morrissey, Mike Joyce’s bittersweet Smiths memoir, and the deathless genius of This Charming Man.

THE 50 GREATEST UK INDIE RECORDS OF ALL TIME!: From The Fall to Arctic Monkeys. Starring The Smiths, Primal Scream, The Stone Roses, Orange Juice, Jesus & Mary Chain, Spacemen 3, Happy Mondays, Josef K, New Order, Franz Ferdinand and more.

IKE TURNER: The incredible story of the man who invented rock’n’roll, the jet ski and the strobe light (he said) but became a pariah.

GARY NUMAN: Synth pioneer, airman, Tory: this much we know. But what of the real Gary Webb, cowering behind the alien persona? He’s even stranger.

KRIS KRISTOFFERSON: He landed his helicopter on Johnny Cash’s lawn, stuck two fingers up at Nashville and George W. Bush. Meet a proper outlaw country legend.

WU-TANG CLAN: They revolutionised music in the ’90s but became its weirdest, wildest soap opera. Some of them lived to tell MOJO the tale…

  • RE: emu

Television Personalities are the single most amazing band in the world.
Swell Maps were there though, weren't they?
Can't see how Swell Maps beat the TVPs though. :S
