MOJO Sparks Indie Revival!

MOJO READER PADDY CONNER was so transported back to his days in an anorak and bowl-cut by the latest issue of MOJO magazine that he immediately sat down and penned a nostalgic ode to his mid-’80s indie heroes.

But he didn’t leave it at that. He recorded said song with a backing of appropriately trebly guitars and sent it to the MOJO office. We played it, swung our bangs like it was 1986 all over again, then resolved to share his touching shamble-pop anthem with the rest of the MOJO “massive”.

The lyrics combine a slice of life as a bookish indie outcast (“Punched in the guts on the last bus home / Coz I knew what visceral means”) with a litany of musical touchstones, including Edwyn Collins (pictured, above left, in indie progenitors Orange Juice) and Joy Division (spawning the boast “I’ve got Still in a gatefold sleeve”).

It’s called Edwyn’s Back, it’s attributed to The Sturmey Archers,* and it’s shamblingly great. But don’t take our word for it, check it out yourselves.
