THE WHITE STRIPES are set to release their first Spanish language single. Newly billed as Las Rayas Blancas, the duo will unleash Conquista on February 19. According to a recent band statement, the track is a "blistering nouveau flamenco number that climaxes in a violent musical battle between Mexican trumpeter Regulo Aldama and Jack White in his fastest solo on record." An acoustic, mariachi version of the song will appear on the B-side.

Linda Thompson will join a stellar line-up of folk acts for a show at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall on March 30. The Shirley Collins-curated evening will also feature the likes of Lisa Knapp, The Latest English Country Blues Band (Ian Anderson, Ben Mandleson, Maggie Holland), Rattle On The Stove Pipe, Ned Oldham, Martyn Wyndham-Read, John Kirkpatrick and Brighton Morris. Tickets are available HERE.

Rumours abound that Amy Winehouse is set to record the next Bond theme. The 22nd 007 movie, cryptically titled Quantum Of Solace, is due for release in November. UPDATE: Daniel Craig has now quashed these suggestions, telling MTV: "It’s just way, way off that.”

“Everyone’s speculating about it but we’ve got other things to deal with- there’s no point in writing the song for a movie when we haven’t got a movie,” Craig exclusively told us.

Deep Purple are to perform for Russia's metalhead future President, Dmitry Medvedev. Gas provider, Gazprom, will fly the band from the UK to Moscow to play the company's 15th anniversary concert - due to take place next week. Medvedev is to step down as Gazprom's chairman next month following the country's presidential elections. "I've loved hard rock since my school days", he told reporters. Well Mr Medvedev, you'll love this! Here, once again, are the nine-month-old Purple grooving at Hugh Hefner's place in 1968. Wow!

And finally...Billy Joel will be the last artist to play New York's Shea Stadium - the fabled location for the opening of The Beatles' 1965 North American tour. The July 16 gig, billed as The Last Play at Shea, From the Beatles to Billy, will be the final event to take place at the the New York Met's home before it closes in September. It will be the first in-season show to take place at the ballpark since Eric Clapton and Elton John's 1992 bonanza.
