Buddy Miles, the US drummer who who played with Jimi Hendrix in his Band of Gypsys, has died at the age of 60 at his home in Austin, Texas. He had been suffering from congestive heart disease.
Born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1947, Miles was performing in his father's jazz combo by the age 11. He then went on to earn his chops with the likes of the The Ink Spots, Wilson Pickett and The Delfonics, before joining forces with guitarist Mike Bloomfield in 1967 to form rock and soul outfit Electric Flag. He teamed up with Hendrix and bass player Billy Cox in the short-lived Band Of Gypsys following his work on Jimi's Electric Ladyland double-set. Hendrix also co-produced Miles' 1969 solo album, Electric Church.
In later years he would go on to play with the likes of David Bowie, Muddy Waters, Barry White, Carlos Santana and Stevie Wonder. When asked how he would like to be remembered, Miles said: "The baddest of the bad. People say I'm the baddest drummer. If that's true, thank you world."
EMI's Guy Hands has been discussing the problems he's been facing during the EMI takeover process. For more, click HERE and HERE.
Thom Yorke has revealed Radiohead won't be playing Glastonbury because of its non-environmentally friendly transport policy. Speaking at the launch of the Friends Of The Earth Big Ask campaign, Yorke stated: “What we’re trying to do now is only play in areas that have a public transport infrastructure in place. So that rules out Glastonbury for this year. Maybe we can work out a plan for the future. They’re probably sick of the sight of us anyway.” He went on to reveal that the Radiohead would only continue touring if they were allowed to "do everything we can to minimise our impact on the environment." It seems Yorke has also been making changes at home: “I am trying to build a system under my house that heats it naturally from the ground,” he revealed. I know the feeling Thom. I'm trying to get a new boiler fitted at the moment - such a pain.
And finally...here's the late, great, Buddy Miles doing his thang at Hugh Hefner's place in 1971.

Buddy Miles is eternal.
His far-out musicianship and all-are-welcome stage presence never fails to captivate. He brought his funkmanship to the masses by shaking their asses with his supreme drumming. The inspiration his soul flooded forth is infinite. He will always and forever rock our world.
Buddy Miles is eternal.
