Lou Reed will guest on Dutch avant-garde composer Stephen Emmer's new album Recitement, due for release on April 2008. Reed will recite Paul Theroux's poem Passengers. Emmer began his musical career in the late '70s with the experimental post punk band Minny Pops. Recorded in Amsterdam and mixed by Tony Visconti in New York, his new album features the likes of Blonde Redhead's Kazu Makino, jazz musician Benjamin Herman, legendary pianist Mike Garson, classical singer Maja Roodveldt and old-school rapper Shyrock.
Smashing Pumpkins are set to take part in a signing session at Virgin Megastore Zavvi's flagship store on London's Oxford Street this Saturday afternoon (February 16). Wristbands will be available on a first-come first-served basis from 9am on Saturday morning. The band will take their seats at 1pm.
The Who's Pete Townshend has revealed the band are now working on a follow up to 2006’s Endless Wire. Posting on the official Who site, the guitarist explained that “Roger is working on his own idea for an album for us, with the producer T-Bone Burnett, who is an old friend of mine.” He goes on to add: “I am hoping to come up with some songs for a more conventional Who record.”
Dolly Parton has postponed her upcoming US tour because of back pain. Doctors have advised the singer to take six to eight weeks off in order to recover properly. "I know I have been breaking my neck and bending over backwards trying to get my new CD and world tour together, but I didn't mean to hurt myself doing it!" revealed the country star. “But hey, you try wagging these puppies around a while and see if you don't have back problems. Seriously though, the doctors said I will be good as new in a few weeks, and I can't wait to get back out there.” The jaunt was due to begin on February 28, with all the dates now expected to be rescheduled. All original tickets will are still valid. A string of European dates, set to begin in mid-June, remain unaffected.
