The original artwork for Sonic Youth's seminal 1983 album, Daydream Nation, is to be auctioned in London next week (February 27). Kerze, the photo-painting created by Gerhard Richter, will go under the hammer at Sothebys. It is expected to reach upwards of £2.5million. Richter’s other works have previously sold in the States for as much £6.5million.
After a week of debate, Sir Paul McCartney and Heather Mills have yet to come to a agreement in their divorce proceedings. Mr Justice Bennett has reserved judgement on the case. Mills could walk away with an estimated £60m according to divorce experts. Justice Bennett is expected to make his decision within the next few weeks.
The Who’s Roger Daltrey auctioned his guestlist spot for the Led Zeppelin's gig at the O2 Arena in December. "I did want to see Led Zeppelin and I could get a ticket but I felt bad about going,” he revealed. “I didn't think it was right that I should have that privilege and thought it would be morally wrong for me to join the celebrity bandwagon that went. Led Zep were incredibly generous and gave our charity four tickets which we auctioned".
Daltrey has also joined the line-up for the ChildLine Rocks concert at the Indig02 on March 13. He will be joined by Marillion, The Zombies, Russ Ballard (Argent), Brian Bennett, OBE (The Shadows), Fish, Thunder, Ian Paice (Deep Purple) and Glenn Hughes (Black Sabbath/ Deep Purple).
UB40's recently departed frontman, Ali Campbell is set to perform a one-off gig at London’s Royal Albert Hall on April 3. He'll be backed by the legendary rhythm section of Sly and Robbie. Smokey Robinson, Pato Banton, Bitty McLean and Beverley Knight are also all set to join Campbell onstage.
The Zutons have announced details of their first UK tour in two years. The band will play seven special forest gigs at the following locations:
High Lodge, Thetford Forest, Near Brandon, Suffolk (June 5)
Bedgebury Pinetum & Forest, Near Goudhurst, Kent (8)
Delamere Forest, Near Linmere, Cheshire (13)
Westonbirt - The National Arboretum, Near Tetbury, Glos (20)
Sherwood Pines Forest Park, Near Edwinstowe, Notts (21)
Dalby Forest, Near Pickering, North Yorks (27)
Cannock Chase Forest, Near Rugeley, Staffs (28)
The Liverpudlian psyche-poppers are currently ensconced in L.A.'s Sunset Sound Studios with producer George Drakoulias (The Black Crowes, Primal Scream, Tom Petty) recording their third album - due out in the Spring. They will also be appearing at this year's Isle of Wight Festival.
And finally...Happy 68th Birthday Smokey Robinson! Here he is with The Miracles in 1967.
