Good-natured powerpop gets two-thumbs-up from MOJO messageboarder.

The Harry Nilsson feature in this month’s MOJO sheds light on one of rock’s tallest tales. Melodic savant with the pipes of an angel, Nilsson spent 20 years pissing away his talent with the help of his similarly self-hating booze buddy, John Lennon. MOJO’s Andrew Male finds the internet awash with Nilsson-based enlightenment, but beware. Some off it’s not very pretty at all...
1) A square at the orgy. Harry on Playboy After Dark in 1968.
2) ...And a guest slot on the Ghost and Mrs Muir, 1969.
3) Ooh, he’s trying to swing! Harry sings his 1969 hit, Everybody’s Talkin’.
4) A little looser on the Smothers Brothers’ poets corner in 1971.
5) Time to tune in to The Point, broadcast on ABC in 1971
Slightly hairier on the BBC’s The Music of Harry Nilsson in 1972
From the sublime...
to the ridiculous...
Fags, booze and a full orchestra for Son of Schmilsson in 1972
Back at the BBC in 1973 with Gordon Jenkins for A little Touch of Schmilsson In the Night
What were they on? The Pussycats TV ad, 1974.
And they also made this: the infamous Son Of Dracula movie...
A rare live performance at Beatlefest 1984. The booze helped but the voice was shot.
A video for Harry's cover of Yoko Ono's Loneliness, from her 1984 compilation, Every Man Has A Woman. Seems more autobiographical than strictly necessary. And what’s Timothy Leary doing here?
