Having already brought The Band’s eponymously titled album, Lou Reed’s Transformer and…Simply Red's Stars to the small screen Eagle Rock Entertainment have announced the latest in their Classic Albums DVD Series. The Doors will hit the shops on April 22 with interviews with all the band’s surviving members, as well as contributions from Perry Farrell and Henry Rollins. While music and movies have never made good bedfellow’s things are set to get a whole lot worse/wonderful depending on your taste. With an original screenplay and score from Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson and starring Simon Callow, Chemical Wedding is a supernatural occult thriller inspired by the life and works of Aleister Crowley. It opens at UK cinemas on May 30.
Amy Winehouse’s follow up to Back To Black will reflect her current mood according to today's Sun. In between being named and shamed by the UN, fighting the highly-contagious infection Impetigo and launching her own fashion range, Amy has been fitting in songwriting sessions with Marc Ronson. An anonymous source has revealed that Amy’s problems are pushing her over the edge. But fear not as “she produces some of her best music when she's in pain - and the past few months have been hell for her."
PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) are determined to find out how much Aretha Franklin’s furs mean to her and are willing to sock it to the taxman to the tune of $19,000 in her name - if she agrees to give up wearing fur for good. The animal rights activists crowned Franklin “Biggest Loser” last month for her love of fur. So you can imagine her surprise when they offered to cough up the cash to save her home. In an open letter to the singer, PETA president Ingrid Newkirk said, “Our offer is a win-win situation. You get to keep your home, and animals get to keep their lives. We are rooting for you to please give animals the R-E-S-P-E-C-T that they deserve by giving up fur".
No Wave cult stars, Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, are to reform to celebrate the release of a new tome entitled, No Wave: Post-Punk. Underground. New York 1976-1980.’ The book has been written by Byron Coley and Thurston Moore. The band will play twice in one night at the Knitting Factory in New York on June 13. A surprise addition to the bill is set to announced shortly, as promoters tease: ‘also on the bill will be a supporting act from the ashes of the original NYC No wave nightmare.’
The Sex Pistols will play a small show at Birmingham Academy on June 11 as they warm-up for their headline slot at this year’s Isle of Wright Festival. It is the first time the band has played the city for 32 years.
