NEWS DIGEST: Thursday, March 14

Legendary Charing Cross venue The Astoria is set to close. Ken Livingstone has announced the venue will be knocked down to make way for Central London's new Crossrail service. An online petition containing 35,000 signatures has been circling the web in protest at the news.

The 2000-capacity venue originally opened as a cinema in 1927, but has been exclusively used as a music venue for the last thirty years. If you’d like to voice your opinion or find out more information about the closure, visit http://www.myspace.com/savetheastoria

ChildLine Rocks will be auctioning off an original Jimmy Page Signature Double Neck EDS 1275 after the concert at indigO2 later tonight. The guitar carries the designation “artist proof” on the back of the headstock and will be signed and personalized to the highest bidder by Jimmy. Also going under the hammer are guitars donated and signed by Noel Gallagher and Status Quo. For more, head to www.childlinerocks.co.uk
