Neil Aspinall 1941-2008

Neil Aspinall, one of The Beatles closest compadres and business associates, has died in New York City at the age of 66. Reports suggest he had been suffering from lung cancer.

Born on October 13, 1941, Aspinall first met Paul McCartney and George Harrison at The Liverpool Institiute at the age of 12. He became The Beatles road manager in 1961 and, along with Mal Evans, would go on to become one of their most trusted friends. He remained a loyal companion to all things Beatle long after the band split, leading Apple Corps as Chief Executive from 1970 until 2007.

Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison said: "All his friends and loved ones will greatly miss him but will always retain the fondest memories of a great man." Starr then added: "I've known Neil many years and he was a good friend. We were blessed to have him in our lives and he will be missed."

He is survived by his wife, Suzy, and his five children.
