THE FALL ARE TO BE HONOURED by MOJO magazine in our annual awards fest. The 31-year-old post-punk institution, surely the one thing left alive were there ever to be a nuclear attack on Salford, are acclaimed for their leader’s unique adherence to his vision and imperviousness to the blandishments of the modern pop culture circus.
The destination of 2008’s MOJO Maverick Award was just announced at the MOJO Honours List’s launch event – an all-day gig hosted by HMV’s flagship Oxford Circus store, closed by the Mancunian Mephistopheles and his latest arrangement of heavy-hitting henchpersons.
The Maverick Award is conferred by the writers and associates of MOJO magazine. The gong itself will be presented to Smith at the awards ceremony on June 16. It’s the only one of MOJO’s gazillion Merit awards to be announced in advance.
Meanwhile, enjoy some typically unconventional Fallness from 1984...
