Hot on the heels of this month's Stephanie Dosen/Teddy Thompson show, the MOJO Club returns in May with two exclusive performances from the UK’s most enchanting folk outfit, Rachel Unthank & The Winterset.
Fresh from a winter jaunt through Australia, Rachel, Becky, Niopha and Belinda will bring their haunting sounds to Manchester’s Night & Day Café on May 8 and London’s historic Shaw Theatre on May 12.
It’s been a whirlwind few years for the Tyneside quartet. Their 2005 debut, Cruel Sister, quickly became MOJO’s folk album of the year and was soon followed by a show-stealing performance at the Cambridge Folk Festival. Last year’s beguiling follow-up, The Bairns, included their take on songs by the likes of Robert Wyatt and Bonnie Prince Billy, while the combination of traditional melodies and exquisitely crafted piano/vocal arrangements cemented their reputation as one of the most ambitious acts at work today. Their live shows are quite unlike anything else out there, and MOJO is delighted that the band have agreed to kickstart the summer months with two nights of superb live music.

Belinda O'Hooley is longer in the band and hasn't been for some time. The band's pianist since January is called Stephanie Conner. Very good she is too!
