74 year-old Gospel legend Dottie Rambo died on May 11 when her tour bus skidded off Interstate 44 and collided with an embankment. She was on her way to a Mother’s Day performance in Texas. Seven other people were injured in the crash.
Rambo released more than 2,500 songs, and has been inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Kentucky Hall of Fame. Dolly Parton, Rambo’s friend and frequent collaborator, said in a statement: “I know Dottie is in heaven in the arms of God right now, but our earth angel will surely be missed.”
EMI plans to release a massive box set of Beach Boys singles, covering their releases at Capitol. Entitled The U.S Singles Collection: The Capitol Years, 1962-1965, the set will feature 66 tracks on 16 discs, all with original artwork. The collection will also include eight previously unreleased mixes, as well as live recordings. It will be released (and made available to download) on June 16.
In a move that goes against their previous fear of anything internet-related, Metallica have decided to give their fans an extensive online preview of their upcoming album. Mission Metallica, a website launched yesterday, will be posting up studio footage and photos, messages from the band, competitions and excerpts from the album itself.
Arcade Fire will be providing the soundtrack to The Box, the next film by Richard Kelly, the director behind Donnie Darko. The news wasn’t broken by Kelly himself, but rather the website of producer Markus Dravs, who is working with the band on the project.
In an update of yesterday’s strange story, the scientific name of the spider named after Neil Young is myrmekiaphila neilyoungi. Catchy, we think you’ll agree.
And finally...Happy Birthday Stevie Wonder! The soul sensation is 58 today. Of course, this gives us another excuse to run one of the best music clips on the web...
