Yale University has awarded Paul McCartney an honorary doctorate in music. The university’s President, Richard Levin, borrowed freely from the fab's lyric sheet as he sang the ex-Beatle’s praises:
“Here, there and everywhere, you have pushed the boundaries of the familiar to create new classics. We admire your musical genius and your generous support of worthy causes."
David Gilmour is remaining cool over rumours of another Pink Floyd reunion. Speaking to the BBC at the Ivor Novello awards last week, he said. “We did the one off thing and that was probably enough for me but we’ll see.” The Lifetime Achievement award-winner added that his band members “haven’t absolutely said no to the possibility.”
Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor have completed recording their version of an unfinished track by Beach Boy Dennis Wilson entitled Holy Man. In an interview with the Daily Express, May said: “It was a song that Dennis had begun shortly before he died but never finished. Beautiful piano playing, wonderful spiritual feel, the whole track spoke to me like a poem and seemed to be steeped in the spirit of this mysterious man, the Beach Boy who surfed.”
Wilson's lost opus Pacific Ocean Blue is released on cd for the first time later this month. The 2-disc set is reviewed in the new issue of MOJO.
And finally...Happy Birthday Siouxsie Sioux! Here she is performing on Later...
