Larry Levine, Goldstar studios' chief engineer and one of the technical architects of Phil Spector's Wall Of Sound, has died at the age of 80. His wife, Lyn, said he passed away at his home in Encino, California on May 8. He had been suffering from emphysema.

Levine began collaborating with Spector in 1962 and would go on to engineer such Spector classics as You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling, Da Doo Ron Ron, He's A Rebel and River Deep, Mountain High. He also worked with the likes of the Beach Boys, Sonny & Cher, Eddie Cochran, Wings, Dr John, The Carpenters and Herb Alpert. He won a Grammy with the latter in 1965 for his work on A Taste Of Honey.

Julian Schnabel's film of Lou Reed's Berlin will make it's theatrical debut on July 25. The movie documents the debut performance of Reed's 1973 opus at St. Anne's Warehouse in New York City in December 2006.

And finally...Happy Birthday David Byrne! The original Talking Head is 56 today. Here he is with 1977's Psycho Killer.
