Jimmy McGriff, one of the world's finest jazz and blues organists, died on Saturday in his hometown of Voorhees, New Jersey following complications from multiple sclerosis. He was 72.

Born in Germantown, Philadelphia, McGriff's first hit was a 1961 version of Ray Charles I’ve Got a Woman. An album, recorded for the Sue label, quickly followed as did another single, All About My Girl.

Throughout his 40-year career he played with such jazz greats as Junior Parker, Buddy Rich, Richard 'Groove' Holmes and Hank Crawford. He will be sorely missed.

A musical adaptation of the seminal Jamaican movie The Harder They Come is making its way to London's West End. The show will feature all Jimmy Cliff's classic songs including You Can Get it if You Really Want, Many Rivers To Cross, Higher and Higher, Rivers of Babylon and The Harder They Come.

The production has been adapted for the stage by the movie's original director Penny Hazell. The Harder They Come begins its run at the Playhouse Theatre on Northumberland Avenue, WC2 this week. For more, click HERE.
