During their most concentrated period of activity in late '60s/early '70s, San Francisco's Creedence Clearwater Revival managed to divine a still-to-be-bettered strain of roaring, primal rock straight from the muddy riverbanks of the South.
A potent mixture of piledriving blues, cajun grooves and foot-to-the-floor rock 'n' roll, John Fogerty, his brother Tom, Doug Clifford and Stu Cook created a vintage, untutored sound quite unlike anything else of its time.
The band's new Best Of... collection has just hit the shelves and once again serves as a welcome reminder of CCR's genius.
