Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds look set to dominate the summer. How, you ask? Well, having already received the Best Album award for Dig!!! Lazarus, Dig!!! at Monday’s MOJO Honours List, the band is now gearing up to launch a multimedia assault to capture hearts and minds over the coming months.
BBC Four will be broadcasting a Nick Cave Night on July 4, which will include an exclusive live set, as well as classic footage from Jools Holland’s Later… and 1999’s Songwriter’s Circle. But that’s not all. On July 28, the Dig!!! Lazarus, Dig!!! book will be hitting store shelves. The 48-page hardback includes handwritten notes and lyrics by Cave, photos and illustrations and assorted other goodies shedding light on the making of this cracking song. And finally, July 28 also sees the release of Midnight Man, the band’s third single from Dig…, which will feature original artwork from Cave himself. All in all, a good month for Bad Seeds fans.
Billy Idol’s Idolize Yourself tour is officially hitting the UK, with two dates announced for next month. The man himself is clearly pleased to be coming home, saying: “British audiences are the best and as always we will rock ‘em to their core.” If you like the sound of the aforementioned core rocking, check out the tour dates below. Tickets are available from 0844 576 5483. Alternatively, head to www.livenation.co.uk to buy online.
Wed July 30 – Manchester Apollo
Thu July 31 – London, Brixton Academy
Electro-funk duo Chromeo are the latest stars to record with Daryl Hall for his Live From Daryl’s House online series. The Hall & Oates crooner has also collaborated with KT Tunstall, Gym Class Heroes’ Travis McCoy, and most recently, legendary songwriter Nick Lowe - the recording of which went live on the site on Saturday.
More good news for Coldplay, who have just become the first British band to top the US singles chart in 11 years with Viva La Vida. The track is also expected to hit the top spot of the UK this week, marking a spectacular transatlantic double whammy.
And finally…Happy Birthday Brian Wilson! The Californian pop god turns 66 today. Here is a sublime snippet of Surf's Up from 1966.
