Harp-handling, freak-folk deity Joanna Newsom has delighted dwellers of the imminent Latitude Festival by confirming a special guest appearance on Sunday’s bill.
Miss Newsom will be decorating the main stage with sun-kissed harp plucks from midday before handing over to Foals, Grinderman and Interpol who will be rounding off what should be an interesting weekend of musical mischief. Unfortunately, all weekend and day tickets are now sold out. But you may still be able to catch the quirky songstress on the same day as she plays for the second time in the open-air courtyard of Somerset House from 9pm.
Jack White has decided it’s time to clear a few things up with a poem about home. The Detroit native has donated an ode to the Detroit Free Press after comments he made about his hometown were apparently misconstrued.
White hopes his poem will help express his “feelings about the city itself, and how strong I believe it to be”. After making the move to Nashville in 2006, the Stripes front man was later quoted describing the Detroit music scene as “super negative” and claimed he “couldn’t breathe on that scene”.
He recently told the Free Press: “Those expressions of mine have never been a representation of my feelings about Detroit the city, a town that I have strong feelings about ... nor were they expressions about its citizens.”
Primal Scream have confirmed whispers of a secret homecoming gig tonight.
A very select few will be privy to an intimate gig somewhere in Glasgow ahead of the band’s headline performance at T in the Park next Sunday.
The band, whose new album Beautiful Future is released on July 21, will announce tonight’s venue on their website a mere matter of hours before the gig. Anyone who is interested in tickets should visit www.primalscream.net for further details.
