The postal system is soon to be awash with a weird and wonderful array of crisply packaged phonetics thanks to the resurrection of Sub Pop’s legendary Singles Club.
The relaunch coincides with the record labels 20th birthday celebrations and continues its original format: for a reasonable price each lucky music junkie will receive one 7” vinyl every month for a whole year, with the first offering coming from Om on August 15.
Subscriptions are available now from www.subpop.com but be warned - there's only going to be 1,500 copies of each single available.
For more exclusive Sub-Pop celebrations, be sure to pick up the current issue of MOJO - on sale now!
To celebrate the 70th birthday of Suicide’s Alan Vega, Blast First plan to release a tasty series of limited edition EPs from an eclectic pool of artists including Bruce Springsteen, Spiritualized, Vincent Gallo, Grinderman and Sunn.
Each EP will feature a cover of a Suicide track, one previously unreleased rarity and a cover version by a lesser-known act. The series kicks off on July 28 with a Bruce Springsteen cover of Dream Baby Dream, backed by the previously unreleased Suicide track Midnight Special.
And finally...here are the links to the superb new video from Fleet Foxes. Sumptuous stuff indeed...

Mojo--
Uh, I know how to use a computer; I am sure most of your staff do, too. But you should fire the sod in charge of labeling the tracks for your 'free' cds. Not only can this person not read correctly from prepared liners notes, e.g. "Kelley Stoltz_The (sic) Sune Comes Through", but he/she, on Sub Pop 300!, also assigned 'the artist' name & 'the song name' inversely more often than a magazine of your caliber (yes, I'm a Canadian, though I live within a couple hours of your headquarters) ought to permit. It makes you look like you are doing things on the cheap, and that is not a good sign.
Though the free cd is apparently one of your lesser projects in putting out a generally excellent monthly, even I, who love the concept of un- or well-knowns reworking some Lifetime Achievement Award winner's back catalog, I feel you have sometimes tossed in some total crap to fill out the cd. Take a look at The Word's monthly offerings (as I am sure you have) of NEW music by worthy artists. Note also their slim, cardboard sleeves are much more biodegradable ( should we wish to shed some of our collections--and lacking space, some of us do!) than your full-depth retro plastic- trayed cases.
