Larry Jon Wilson and Stephen Stills, two of America’s finest guitar playing troubadours, have announced rare UK appearances.
Wilson, a pioneer of the ‘70s outlaw movement, has agreed to play four intimate gigs in July including Lounge On The Farm Festival in Kent. His new self-titled album, which was released earlier this month, is his first recorded work in 28 years. His reclusive tendencies and ‘my way or the highway’ approach have severely restricted his output, limiting him to five records in a 40-year career. It’s therefore fair to say that he doesn’t tour very often making this mini-jaunt a must:
Friday, July 11 - London The Sheep Walk
Sunday, July 13 - Kent Lounge On The Farm
Monday, July 14 - London The Gladstone
Tuesday, 15 - London 12 Bar Club
On the flipside, folk-rock everyman Stephen Stills (pictured) has continued to record and tour throughout his career. Last year saw the release of Just Roll the Tape, a lost treasure of 1968 that somehow found its way back to the CSNY-man . After touring the US on the back of the album, Stills has confirmed a string of mouth-watering UK dates throughout October:
Friday, October 10 - Brighton Centre
Saturday, October 11 - London Shepherds Bush Empire
Monday, October 13 - Manchester Apollo
Wednesday, October 15 - Birmingham Symphony Hall
Thursday, October 16 - Newcastle City Hall
Saturday, October 18 - Sheffield City Hall
Sunday, October 19 - Glasgow Clyde Auditorium
In other CSNY-related news, a lost Hendrix album, recorded by Stills before the axe-master's death in 1970, is being prepared for release by long-serving chum Graham Nash. Speaking to The Las Vegas Sun, Nash revealed: "[Stephen] has an enormous history of recording. In the 70s, he was a recording fool. He just found a bloody album he made with Hendrix. 'Oh yeah, I forgot that'. We've got to listen to that... I want to listen to every track he ever recorded in case he recorded with Al Jolson".
And finally...Happy Birthday Jack White! Nashville's latest world-renowed resident is 33 today. Here he is in 2001 with good 'ol Meg in tow...
