Colin Blunstone (The Zombies): “To me, it’ll always be the sound of Studio 3, Abbey Road. Studio 3 was where The Zombies recorded Odyssey And Oracle. It was the less glamorous studio, but far more intimate than the others. In the old days you couldn’t go directly from the control room into the studio. You had to go out of a door into a corridor, along the corridor and into the studio, which seemed quite quaint to me. We were always on a very tight budget with The Zombies, so to save time and money I always used to run from the control room, out through the door, along the corridor, into the studio for vocal takes. Stupidly, I’d always be out of breath when I reached the mic…"

“So I always imagine Paul, on his own in Studio 3 while the rest muck about with Revolution 9. It’s a beautiful chord progression – showing that Bach influence – and a wonderful performance. You can also take the lyrics on many levels – one being segregation in the States. But even you don’t accept that, it just sounds remarkably fresh and timeless and as beautiful as when I first heard it.”
