The Hold Steady have shocked British fans after cancelling their entire UK tour, due to start last night in Oxford and end in October 8 at the London Roundhouse. The reason for the cancellations is the ill health of guitarist Tad Kubler, who has been hospitalised with pancreatitis. According to a spokesperson for the band, the UK dates will be rescheduled.
Neil Young has been confirmed to perform at the Big Day Out, Australia and New Zealand’s biggest music festival, which runs from January 16 to February 1, and visits Auckland, the Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. It’ll keep Young busy while his “people” wrangle two retrospective releases: The Riverboat (featuring live performances from the Toronto venue, 1969) which was meant to be out already but keeps dropping off the release schedule; and the more involved Archive, a portmanteau of multimedia fanbait that’s been delayed for the umpteenth time – this time due to problems mastering the Blu-ray discs.
Other artists confirmed for the Big Day Out include The Arctic Monkeys, My Morning Jacket, TV On The Radio and The Prodigy.
Today we remember Marc Bolan, who died in a car accident on September 17 1977. The legendary glam rocker would have been 61 today. Here he is with David Bowie in a shambolic rehearsal of Standing Next You for the Marc Show just days before his untimely death.
