Elbow have won this year's Nationwide Mercury Prize for their fourth studio album, The Seldom Seen Kid.
"This is quite literally the best thing that's ever happened to us," said singer Guy Garvey at the awards ceremony in London.
The band formed in Manchester in 1990, their debut album Asleep In The Back (also Mercury-nominated) appearing some 11 years later on the V2 label. This year, they beat the likes of The Last Shadow Puppets, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss and Burial to scoop the prize.
MOJO called The Seldom Seen Kid "droll and confessional" and "packed with terrace-chant optimism".
