The Thompson family are set to unite for a one-off show in December.

The trio of British folk royalty, Richard, Linda
and Teddy, have announced details of A Thompson Family Christmas Show will is scheduled to take place at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall on December 17.

Proceeds from the ticket sales will go to Amnesty International.

Teddy Thompson: “We aim to put on a beautiful night of music that will benefit those in need all over the world. Amnesty are a great organisation who fight poverty and suffering all year round.”

Tickets go on sale October 29. Guests are expected to join the Thompson's onstage.

Meanwhile, Richard Thompson is to embark on his 1000 Years of Popular Music tour in January next year. This musical history stretches from the ballads of the early middle ages, through more modern songs that may include numbers originally made known by artists as varied as Nat King Cole, Nelly Furtado, Gilbert & Sullivan, and The Who.

It’s been a great week for Guns ‘N Roses fans and it’s about to get better. In March, Dr Pepper promised that if new album Chinese Democracy saw the light of day they would give away free cans of the drink to every American citizen. True to their word the company are now giving American fans a chance to register at www.drpepper.com within 24 hours of the day of the album release (November 23) to claim a free can within 6 weeks. "We never thought this day would come. Now it's here, all we can say is the Dr Pepper's on us," said a spokesman. If you’re American (and you’re not Slash or Buckethead) you are entitled to apply.

Bono is to once again flex his muscles as a journalist. In 2009, the U2 front man will be writing for the New York Times Op-Ed section. According to editor Andrew Rosenthal, Bono will write on a range of subjects from poverty to music - and he’s doing it all for free!

And finally...Happy Birthday Bill Wyman! The ex-Stones bassist turns 72 today. Here he is performing Midnight Rambler with his old chums in 1976.

  • So is it definite that Richard will be playing? Everywhere else lists Linda, Teddy, Kamila and "special guests". (crosses fingers, touches wood, says a little prayer, gets out credit card!)
