NEWS DIGEST: Thursday, October 9

Foo Fighters have slammed Republican Presidential candidate John McCain after their song, My Hero, was used in conjunction with his campaign. A statement from the band reads:

“It’s frustrating and infuriating that someone who claims to speak for the American people would repeatedly show such little respect for creativity and intellectual property. The saddest thing about this is that My Hero was written as a celebration of the common man and his extraordinary potential. To have it appropriated without our knowledge and used in a manner that perverts the original sentiment of the lyric just tarnishes the song. We hope that the McCain campaign will do the right thing and stop using our song — and start asking artists’ permission in general!

My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James has been injured following a fall from the stage at the University of Iowa. A post on the band's official website reports that he suffered "traumatic injuries to his torso" and was immediately taken to hospital. MMJ's two shows in Chicago, due to take place tonight and tomorrow (October 9,10), have been postponed.

Here's another man who's rather familiar with torso injuries. Oasis' Noel Gallagher has revealed that the band are planning a "super-gig" next summer in Manchester. The Brit stars are not scheduled to play their hometown on the current leg of their UK tour. "If I gave you 500 guesses you'd never guess where it's going be", Gallagher told the BBC. Meanwhile, Liam has been speaking to Sky News about the Toronto stage attack that left his brother with two broken ribs. "It's not nice when you look down and see your brother on the deck", he said. "If it was up to me, I'd have cut his (the assailants) dick off and made him eat it." Charming.
