Good news for Smiths completists! Rhino are set to re-issue the band's first 10 singles on limited edtion 7" vinyl.

The singles will be released in pairs every week between November 10 and December 8. The tracks will also be made available simultaneously as digital releases.

In addition to the weekly batches of releases, a new Singles Box is set to appear on December 8 - a package that will contain the first 10 UK-issued singles in their original picture sleeves. Rare recording Still Ill and the black and white cowboy edition of The Headmaster Ritual will also be included, alongside badges and a posters.

A new 2-CD compilation, The Sound Of The Smiths is also due for release on November 10.

Fans of The Who will appreciate the release of a new live DVD of their electrifying Kilburn show on December 15, 1977 - the fabled gig that would become Keith Moon's penultimate performance with the band. The second disc features The Who's 1969 show at The Coliseum.

The trend for all things reunion has been buckled by two of British rock's biggest players. Ronnie Wood has reportedly turned down a possible Faces tour due to current questions of finance, while the chances of Mark Knopfler agreeing to another Dire Straits album and tour are very slim according to bassist John Illsey.

Despite the lukewarm reception to their new album Dig Out Your Soul, Oasis look set to hit the number one spot this Sunday having sold almost 90,000 copies of the record on its first day of release.

And finally...Happy Birthday Johnny Ramone! The snarling guitar star would have been 57 today. Here he is in all his thrashing glory:

  • Another wasted opportunity to finally give The Smiths back catalogue the refurbishing it deserves. We get an arbitrarily slapped-together compilation that mirrors every one of the other 146 other arbitrarily slapped-together compilations, save for the addition of a disc containing, at best, largely insignificant and, at worst, profoundly un-rare rarities. And precisely WHAT is a box-set containing the "first 10" Smiths singles about, especially when two of those single were only ever released either in Surinam or Morrissey's mind? This in the week when Mozza finally reached the summit of Mount Twatdom by pretending to be a Millwall fan. He'll be buying a Staffie next and claiming that he feels "like a stranger in his own country". Hang on...apparently, he already has...
