Franz Ferdinand will release their new album on January 26.

Tonight: Franz Ferdinand , the Scottish alt-popsters' third LP, will be their first since 2005's You Could Have It So Much Better. New songs, Ride Together, Turn It On, Send Him Away, Katherine Kiss Me, Ulysses and What She Came For are all expected to appear on the record.

Johnny Marr will don his robes and make a return to Salford University to lecture about the music industry on November 4 at 5pm.

The ex-Smiths guitarist and current member of The Cribs will deliver his first public lecture as Visiting Professor of Music at 5pm. Always from the outside: Mavericks, Innovators and Building Your Own Ark, is a free event. The public cano register for tickets in advance by emailing s.cullen@salford.ac.uk

Marr's last performance at the University’s Maxwell Hall was with The Smiths in 1986. “The PA had to be tied down because the floor was bouncing up so high that the stage was practically falling to pieces!” he recalls today.

The University's John Sweeney added: “Johnny is a revered guitarist and composer and is held in the highest esteem by many of his fellow performers. His lecture is a tremendous opportunity for our students and the wider public to benefit from his considerable experience and expertise. It promises to be a really special event.”

And finally...Happy Birthday Moby Grape's Don Stevenson! The San Francisco psych-rockers' drummer/singer-songwriter is 66 today. Here are The Grape in full flight on the Mike Douglas show in 1967...
