The soul of American soul wants you to check out Gnarls Barkley's dark and
sexy world...
"There's a lot o' songs I liked, but I don't know if there's much that really moved me apart from Who's Gonna Save My Soul, the Gnarls Barkley song. That's the only song I've listened to this year where I didn't have to think about it or intellectualise it - it was just exquisite - it was right for me. The video was the first thing I saw and heard, so I experienced it first that way. Have you seen the video, with him tearing his heart out? But I've listened to it many times since then, and it is truly a beautiful piece of work. Cee-Lo's voice sounds incredible, the beat is perfect and dark, and sexy, in a way. It's gorgeous - the whole track is gorgeous. I really think it's his voice more than anything - just the way his voice works with the track. The chorus, everything is right. It's great songwriting, but it's the delivery and the production, I think, that make it haunting and memorable."
