The Guv’nor has some sounds he’d like you to hear.
“Goldfrapp’s Seventh Tree is brilliant. I like the way each of their albums are different; it’s never about re-treading old ground. There are great melodies, a subtlety and a lovely folkiness to it and Happiness is a great pop song. Then there’s Fleet Foxes. Again it’s quite folky, and I love the sound – it’s the missing link between the Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds and Smiley Smile with all the choral, hymn-like harmonies on it. Finally, The Coral’s Singles Collection which reminds you just how brilliant, underrated and undervalued this band are. They are such really gifted songwriters and in James Skelly they have the best male vocalist in this country. They make such amazing music. The collection made me dig out last year’s Roots & Echoes again. I didn’t think that much of it when it was released but now it’s become one of my favourite records of all time."

Cheers, Paul, on behalf of all Goldfrapp followers (of which there are many). We love them for myriad reasons and one of them being they continue to surprise us. Who knows what the fifth album will be like?
