The thinking woman’s not-drunk-anymore Americana workhorse picks his great-for-'08 choice.
“Oasis, Dig Out Your Soul. Their records to me are such a continuing story, but this one I just kind of went Oh God. To Be Where There's Life, The Nature Of Reality - it's like, oh my God, what is he doing? He's going deeper. He has to have some knowledge of Buddhism - there's some Buddhist thing happening there - and he's funny. [Let's not tell Ryan that Gem and Andy wrote these! -Ed]
I heard some of the tunes before the record came out - we [The Cardinals] were touring with them - and I made an analogy that hearing the new songs was like when I heard Kid A. What I meant was that when you hear a band be so into themselves that they are able to branch out even further and go deeper in their own thing, that it's almost a bit abstract, out of control, and they can take you for a little bit of a spin. Even though it has all the hallmarks of an Oasis record, it's really intense.”
