Blur have announced plans for a reunion show in London's Hyde Park on Friday, July 3, 2009. The date will be the first time the original line-up has performed together in nine years.
The news comes after front man Damon Albarn revealed last month that the band was "going to rehearse and see if we're into it".
Inactive since 2003’s Think Tank tour, rumours of a Blur reunion have persisted since Graham Coxon, who left the band in 2002 following a dispute with his fellow band mates, “rebuilt” his relationship with Albarn, Alex James and Dave Rowntree earlier this year.
Since his departure, Coxon has continued to record and tour as a solo artist. Having recorded three solo albums during his first tenure with Blur, the bespectacled guitarist went on to release The Kiss of Morning (2002), Happiness in Magazines (2005), and Love Travels at Illegal Speeds (2006). Earlier this year he announced plans for a concept album but was subsequently dropped from EMI, leading Coxon to claim that “future plans are cloudy”.
Since achieving success with Gorillaz in 2001, Albarn has pursued a number of projects including last year’s Danger Mouse-produced The Good, The Bad and The Queen and more recently Monkey: Journey to the West - an operatic adaptation of a traditional Chinese tale.
The band’s bassist and self-styled cheese-man, Alex James, has been co-writing songs for Marianne Faithfull and Sophie Ellis Bextor, while drummer Dave Rowntree is a computer animator, directing two series of the Channel 4 cartoon Empire Square and since 2006 has been studying to become a barrister.
Tickets for the Hyde Park show go on sale at 9am on Friday (December 12) via www.livenation.co.uk. All tickets are £45.00 each and are limited to six per person.

Good on them. Hope it's a killer gig. With any luck, they won't decide to tour without a key member being on board.

Finally! The last time I saw them was 1995 at Glastonbury - can't wait for next summer!
Obviously Dave and Graham need the money!
