The Hold Steady's head-honcho reveals his 2008 favourite
"The best thing I heard all year was Conor Oberst's self-titled record. I've been a Bright Eyes fan for quite a while, but I think this is my favorite thing Conor has ever done. It's fun and loose, but at the same time deep and thoughtful. As someone who has spent way too much time visiting friends in hospitals in the past few years, I especially dig the song I Don't Want to Die in the Hospital. A tale of someone dying too young, Danny Callahan is heartbreaking, and the rest of the album simply proves, yet again, that Conor Oberst is one of the great American songwriters of our time."
