Paul Weller has ruled out talk of The Jam reforming by saying he sees “no point” in rock reunions.

Talking to Contact Music, Weller said: “There's no point to it. I don't understand the need for nostalgia. I don't get it. I don't know where it's come from. Someone offered me a ticket to see Led Zep… I’ve no interest whatsoever to go and see people reform, you know. I'm happy with what they've done at the time and the records and your memories and that's it really.” Step forward...

...The Stone Roses. According to Mani, the Madchester gods could be reforming in 2009. The band’s former bassist sees a reunion as being the “ideal” way to mark the 20th anniversary of the group’s self-titled debut and claims that Ian Brown is the only band member yet to be convinced. “Me, John and Reni are up for doing it and Ian just needs some working on,” Mani told Channelbee. “It’s something I would love to do before we are all fat and bald. Start the campaign.”

Axl Rose has reached out to online fans for the third time in as many days. The Guns N’ Roses singer followed up his recent message board posts with a 4,500 word open letter on Sunday, seeking to address misconceptions surrounding the band’s history.

Posting as ‘Dexter’ on mygnrforum.com, Rose explained why Chinese Democracy was released with the Guns N’ Roses name and not as a solo project.
“A solo record would be completely different than this and probably much more instrumental,” he wrote. “There's been a lot of pressure to go with using my name (all external) but that never felt right to me for this band and the parameters in regard to this music have lots more to do with the mindset of Guns than something else.”

Asked whether the band would reunite if they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Rose said: “It seems to mean more to some than others and more so amongst fans. It's nice to get recognition and have some form of acceptance but in regards to joining others the price is too high and just not worth it. It's a ways away and seems a bit presumptuous to be contemplating being inducted now.”

The Cure stunned fans by performing a secret show in Los Angeles at the weekend.

The rock legends played for almost three hours at the Troubadour on Saturday (December 13), mixing classics such as Friday I’m in Love and Pictures of You with material from their new album 4:13 Dream.

The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne claims he can’t relate to British bands like Oasis and the Arctic Monkeys. In an interview with The Daily Star, the front man said: "I've never got Arctic Monkeys – they seem too much like a British thing to me. They’re like Oasis whereby Americans can't really relate to them. Lots of British people like it but not for me, and I don't like Razorlight or Duffy much either."

Madness have signed a new deal that will see their entire catalogue reissued both physically and digitally.

The ska legends have agreed a long-term arrangement with the catalogue marketing company Union Square Music which will centre around the 30th anniversary of One Step Beyond next year.

2009 will also see the band releasing their first studio album in nine years through their label, Lucky Seven.

  • Good for you, Wayne Coyne. I'm more interested in an artist's dislikes, tired of hearing them ramble on politely about other acts. I'm still waiting to know who else out there also hates Radiohead (The new Pink Floyd) and also thinks Arcade Fire are pretentious twats and ersatz "multi-instrumentalists" ("watch me now, I'm going to play the xylophone... two same notes in quick succession... klink! klink!...")

  • When you can use that Arcitc Monkey skill well, then you're just a good songwriter. But in the case of the Arctic Monkeys, yes they make it too much of a trait.

And THANK YOU! Someone else who doesn't care for Radiohead! I find them one of the most boring groups out there.

FYI: They're not even Pink Floyd. If they are Pink Floyd, they're late Pink Floyd. The dreary Pink Floyd that always underperforms when compared to earlier work. Give me Live in Pompeii anyday.

Secret Cure Show? And why was I, Lord Von Partyton, not invited? But seriously, I hope to find that online soon.
