Preposterously, there's not one satisfying U2 compilation: The Best Of: 1980-1990 (the 1998 instalment of their two-stage career retro) features four - count 'em - songs off Rattle And Hum, and the recent U218 Singles is for people who have barely heard music, let alone U2. Yet having said that there is no worthless U2 record (even Rattle And Hum has All I Want Is You) there is certainly an unduly "challenging" one - ie. Passengers: Original Soundtracks (Island, 1995). A collection of "imagined" movie themes piloted by Eno in full bleepy, wibbly pomp with a bit of Pavarotti thrown in, it makes Zooropa sound like the Pussycat Dolls.
