Spinal Tap have revealed they are to record new material.

The legendary rockers are set to crank their amps back up to 11 after a 17-year sabbatical. Their last studio album, Break Like The Wind, was released in 1992. Although it fared well, the record failed to engender the same fevered response as 1982's Smell The Glove or proto-metal rarity Brain Hammer. Oh to live in the Tap world...

Speaking to Holy Moly earlier this week bassist Derek Smalls (aka Harry Shearer) said: "This is the 25th anniversary of Spinal Tap so Christopher, Michael and myself are probably going to do an acoustic tour where we play both [spoof folk trio] A Mighty Wind and Spinal Tap music."

Tap last appeared in 2007 at the Live Earth concert in London.

The Hold Steady will release a live album and documentary DVD on April 7.

The double disc, entitled A Positive Rage, will give fans a fly-on-the-wall look at their 2006 world tour.

The DVD is set to begin with their debut London gig and conclude with their sell-out homecoming show in Chicago.

Has Fleet Foxes' Robin Pecknold embarked on a secret side project? Two new recordings from the hirsute frontman have appeared on the White Antelope MySpace page. He recently revealed all to Chocolate Bobka:

"I used to post demos of songs on that page before the record came out. The Guitar Duet thing dates from when we were recording the LP and the cover of False Knight I did about two weeks ago. I posted the first demo of Blue Ridge Mountains (when it was called Stirring, before the other Stirring) on there before. I might put that back up, it had different instrumentation and was kinda cool....

Right now I am alone in this house we've rented to record the next record in and tomorrow I'm going to record a cover of Ridge Rider, the Judee Sill song, for this compilation. Trying to write new stuff is hard right now for some reason.

I want to do a record of really spare stuff for White Antelope so it may be recorded this year. I dunno if that is a good name though.

Thinking out loud."

Decide for yourself by heading over to the MySpace page HERE.

  • Pecknold,

Stop whining like a bearded sissy, and go out and split some logs or something equally bucolic.
