JOHN LENNON WAS a "cunning" and "quick tempered" sensualist with a "strong desire for achievement at any cost". Such were the conclusions of a series of psychological profiles undertaken by French pop magazines in the 1960s, the full results of which have fallen into the hands of MOJO.
French magazine journalist Henry Pessar presented MOJO with the graphology reports and astrological charts along with the astonishing archive of John Lennon and Yoko Ono pictures he took between 1965 and 1969, unseen items from which grace the pages of this month's MOJO magazine and an exclusive gallery on MOJO4music.com.

The astrological reading, dating from 1969, interprets Lennon as "fanciful, possessed by strong desires and in constant need for change, exploration and adventure". It also pinpoints an "inherent rebelliousness" in his nature that "makes him break with the past and with the society he belongs to."
Whilst these conclusions could possibly have been reached without the aid of mystic skills, it is the glimpse of the future that proves chilling.
"When Uranus comes into opposition with itself in 1980," the profile continues, "this will be a critical period - the most important turning point in his life. There are two possibilities: either he will reap a rich harvest or else his situation will deteriorate."

Quite how quickly the situation would deteriorate - Lennon was shot to death outside his New York on home on December 8, 1980 - could perhaps have been made more helpfully explicit.
Henry Pessar contributes his reminiscences of John & Yoko, including the day they met Salvador Dali in Paris, and the Amsterdam leg of the bed-in, in the latest issue of MOJO magazine.
