Pete Seeger, the talismanic US folk legend, will celebrate his 90th birthday on May 3. To mark the occasion a series of shows are expected to take place throughout the second half of 2009.

Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, Arlo Guthrie, Old Crow Medicine Show, The Persuasions and Dr. Dog are among those lining-up to pay tribute.

On May 3, Seeger will play at a special birthday event at New York's Madison Square Garden. Bruce Springsteen, Steve Earle and Eddie Vedder are all rumoured to appear alongside the great man.

Eli 'Paperboy' Reed and The True Loves, MOJO's favourite Boston soul brothers, are set to tour Europe next month.

New York Dolls have announced details of their new album.

Cause I Sez So, recorded at Utopia Sound Studio in Hawaii, was produced by Todd Rundgren and is set for release on May 5. It is the first time the punk icons have worked with Rundgren since they recorded their classic debut in 1973.

The Dolls' frontman David Johansen said: "It was amazing working with Todd again, and I think we were able to evoke the special sound of our first album and drag it by the hair into the present."

Nowhere Boy, a new John Lennon biopic directed by Sam Taylor-Wood, has been picked up by The Weinstein Company.

The film, which centres on Lennon's teenage years in Liverpool was written by Control-scripter Matt Greenhalgh and is currently shooting in the late Beatle's hometown. It stars Kristin Scott-Thomas and Anne-Marie Duff. Aaron Johnson will fill the role of the young Lennon.

Nowhere Boy is due for release in 2010.

Spiritualized will perform their landmark album Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space in its entirety at London's Royal Festival Hall on Monday, October 12.

Presented by All Tomorrow's Parties as part of their Don't Look Back series, fans can expect extra soundscaping from a choir, string and horn sections.

Tickets for the event go on sale at 10am tomorrow (Thursday, March 18).

An expanded Legacy Edition of Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space is also due to appear in October.
