Paul McCartney Pays Tribute To Michael Jackson

Paul McCartney has paid tribute to Michael Jackson via a message posted on his official site.

Here is Macca's statement in full:

"It's so sad and shocking. I feel privileged to have hung out and worked with Michael. He was a massively talented boy man with a gentle soul. His music will be remembered forever and my memories of our time together will be happy ones. I send my deepest sympathy to his mother and the whole family and to his countless fans all around the world."

McCartney collaborated with Jackson twice during the early '80s, co-writing and contributing vocals to Thriller's The Girl Is Mine and Say, Say, Say - the latter appearing on McCartney's 1983 album, Pipes Of Peace.

In 1985, Jackson beat a joint bid by McCartney and Yoko Ono to buy the rights to over 200 Beatles songs. Jackson, who paid $47 million (£28.5 million), for the catalogue, sold half of it to Sony in 1995. Unconfirmed reports emerged earlier this year that Jackson planned to leave the rights to the rest of the songs to McCartney in his will.
