Arctic Monkeys assembled with Josh Homme in September 2008 to start work on their third album, Humbug, now due for release on August 24.
The venue was Rancho De La Luna, a Homme-endorsed residential magnet of desert-weird in Joshua Tree, California. Previous guests have included Eagles Of Death Metal, Daniel Lanois, Fu Manchu and Nebula.
"I thought it would be an actual studio," guitarist Jamie Cook told MOJO. "But it is just someone's house. We played live in a bedroom. And there's amps set up in the toilet. And it just sounded amazing."
The following are photos taken by Rancho hand and Eagles ODM member Dave Catching, representing the Sheffield quartet's stay at the venue.
