It's Beck and Tom Waits in conversation! It's all happening over at a new section of Beck's website. Here's an explanation from the man himself:
"Irrelevant Topics in a new section featuring conversations between musicians, artists, writers, etc. on various subjects, without promotional pretext or editorial direction. For the first in this series of conversations, the legendary musician and performer, Tom Waits agreed lend an hour of his time to talk about anything and nothing in particular. Here is Pt. 1 of that conversation."

Rosanne Cash will release her 12th studio album on October 6 via Manhatten Records.
The List will feature 12 new interpretations of songs given to her by her father in 1973. Concerned that his daughter didn't know the true heritage of country music, the late, great Johnny Cash gave her a list of the 100 Essential Country Songs and promptly told her to learn them. All of them.
"The List was far-ranging and thorough," says Cash today. "It was assembled from my father's intuitive understanding of each critical juncture in the evolution of country music. There were old Appalachian folk ballads, and the songs of Jimmie Rodgers and Woody Guthrie. The influence of gospel and Southern blues were crucial. Then he segued into rockabilly and the birth of modern country music by way of Hank Williams, and up to the present, which was then 1973. He also included a couple of his own songs. I endeavored to learn them all and it was an education."
The List will include covers of songs by The Carter Family, Hank Williams, Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Cochran/Patsy Cline, Merle Haggard and Bob Dylan. The record also features a host of very special guests including Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Wilco's Jeff Tweedy and Rufus Wainwright.
