The 2009 Mercury Prize nominations have been announced.
This year's shortlist, a mix of chart-heavies and relatively unknown artists, looks like this:
Kasabian - West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum
Florence And The Machine - Lungs
The Horrors - Primary Colours
Bat For Lashes - Two Suns
Friendly Fires - Friendly Fires
Glasvegas - Glasvegas
La Roux - La Roux
Lisa Hannigan - Sea Sew
The Invisible - The Invisible
Speech Debelle - Speech Therapy
Led Bib - Sensible Shoes
Sweet Billy Pilgrim - Twice Born Men
The winner, voted for by a panel of industry figures, will take home £20,000. The results will be announced at a ceremony in London on September 8.
In recent years Elbow, Arctic Monkeys, Antony & the Johnsons and Franz Ferdinand have won the coveted gong.
