The Beatles' Yellow Submarine may soon return to the big screen in 3D if negotiations between director Robert Zemeckis and Disney are successful.
Zemeckis, the Academy Award-winning director of films including Back To The Future, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Forrest Gump, plans to create the film using the 3D motion capture techniques used during the making of his 2007 fantasy-adventure, Beowulf.
Zemeckis's ImageMovers are set to produce the remake of the 1968 animated hit, which saw the four Beatles protecting the under-water paradise of Pepper Land from the music-hating Blue Meanies. Photorealistic recreations of the band and the Meanies may see the light of day in 2012.
The rights to use 16 original Beatles' tracks for the film is currently being negotiated in a deal which has kept armies of lawyers busy for months.
